A major milestone for ATRIDE and their smart breathing e-shirt

One of DIGILUNG project partners, ATRIDE, has obtained CE certification for its smart breathing technology (e-shirt), marking an important milestone for the development of next-generation respiratory monitoring solutions.

This certification marks a major milestone for ATRIDE, enabling the commercial deployment of its smart breathing e-shirt as a research-ready solution for continuous respiratory monitoring.

The technology is currently being evaluated in clinical pilot programs with COPD patients in Greece in collaboration with:

  • University Hospital of Ioannina
  • General Hospital of Corfu

These pilots aim to assess how continuous respiratory monitoring can support improved understanding and management of chronic respiratory diseases. ATRIDE also includes collaborative research activities with leading European academic and clinical partners, including:

  • Vrije Universiteit Brussel
  • Tilburg University
  • University of Leicester
  • the National Health Service

These collaborations aim to generate new scientific insights into respiratory physiology, breathing behavior, and disease progression in real-world conditions.

ATRIDE Breathing Intelligence Platform

ATRIDE developed core breathing intelligence platform is a smart textile system capable of capturing continuous respiratory data in a fully non-invasive and wearable format.

The platform captures a comprehensive set of respiratory parameters, including:

  • Respiratory rate
  • Breathing amplitude
  • Ventilation timing
  • Respiratory variability
  • Respiratory symmetry
  • Thoracoabdominal synergy and asynchrony
  • Comprehensive Breathing Quality Index

These measurements enable researchers and clinicians to obtain high-resolution respiratory insights outside traditional laboratory environments, opening new possibilities for long-term respiratory studies and digital health innovation.

Enabling a New Generation of Respiratory Research

Following CE certification, ATRIDE is making its platform available as a commercial research solution for institutions and organizations seeking advanced respiratory monitoring capabilities.

The system supports research and innovation across multiple domains, including:

  • chronic respiratory disease research
  • COPD monitoring and telehealth
  • rehabilitation and recovery monitoring
  • sports science and human performance
  • breathing and wellness research

By enabling continuous respiratory measurement in real-life environments, ATRIDE’s technology contributes to a growing ecosystem of data-driven respiratory health research and digital healthcare solutions.

The achievement also represents a key technological outcome of the DIGILUNG European Program, a three-year European initiative running until August 2026, dedicated to advancing next-generation digital solutions for respiratory monitoring and care.

This achievement shows how European collaboration between technology innovators, researchers and healthcare providers can translate research into real-world impact.
